60th MABA/Matrix Agong Cup Men’s Group A Recap

Negeri Sembilan Basketball Association – NSBA finished their preliminary round games in dominant fashion, defeating the MABA Selection team 136-26.

Every Negeri Sembilan player finished on the scorer’s list as the team kept the intensity both on offense and defense the entire game, not giving MABA Selection any breathing room.

Negeri Sembilan had a huge 64-21 rebounding advantage, scored 84 points in the paint and held MABA Selection to only 11 field goals for the game.

Perry Lim’s 29 points, 15 rebounds and 3 steals was Negeri Sembilan’s best player. 7 Negeri Sembilan players in double digits scoring.

MABA Selection’s Adam HM Latiff was their lone bright spot with 10 points and 6 rebounds.

The Westports Malaysia Dragons also closed out their preliminary round games in impressive fashion by defeating Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (ATM) 117-40.

The Dragons dominated the game from start to finish, shooting an impressive 52%, moving the ball well with 23 assists for the game, and forced ATM into committing 40 turnovers.

Seven Dragons players finished in double digits scoring with double double performances from Heng Yee Tong (28 points and 10 assists) and Tan Wei Long (22 points and 10 rebounds).

ATM’s Syafeeq Azrain was their best player with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

MABA Selection move on to the 5th/6th placing game while ATM will face Perak for 7th/8th placing.

60th MABA/Matrix Agong Cup Day 3 Men’s Group B Recap

Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) finished their preliminary round games in strong form with the 90-56 win against Perak Basketball Association 霹雳篮球总会

PDRM started the game on a 9-0 run and never looked back. PDRM lead from start to finish, as they were determined to keep their good form going into their semi finals clash against the Westports Malaysia Dragons.

Every PDRM player ended up on the scoreboard with Wong Chin Hong leading the way with 14 points and 5 rebounds on 67% shooting.

Perak’s best player for the day was Muhammad Kamal Hazary Mohd Jamal with all round contribution of 6 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks.

Perak will face ATM for 7th/8th placing.

NS Matrix 2 withstood a late Pahang fightback to qualify for the Semi Finals, defeating the East Coast team 73-64.

Pahang took an early lead thanks to the on form Goh Yan Qing with six points but three pointers from Yek Liang Chuan, Chin Zhi Shin and Yew Yii Yan stretched NS Matrix 2’s lead to 10 points early in the game.

Former Negeri Sembilan player, Tan Wing Jet was able to lead a Pahang comeback to cut the lead to only one but it was NS Matrix 2’s lead scorer Yek Liang Chun scoring another four points to give them the five point lead at the half.

NS Matrix 2 started the second half strong stretching the lead to as high at 16 as Pahang’s offense began to stagnate.

The lead would remain at double digits for NS Matrix 2  with five minutes remaining before Pahang began a furious fightback with baskets by Lim Jian Yu and Tan Wen Jie cutting the lead to only seven forcing a NS Matrix 2 timeout with two minutes remaining

The timeout proved effective as NS Matrix 2 reorganized their offense with a dagger basket by Yek Liang Chuan giving NS Matrix 2 the final nine point victory.

NS Matrix 2’s offense was once again led by Yek Liang Chuan with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists while Pahang’s best player was Goh Yan Qing with 12 points and 5 rebounds.

NS Matrix 2 will go on to face Negeri Sembilan in the semi finals while Pahang face MABA Selection in the 5th/6th placing game.
