MPL D League Week 7 Day 2 Recap – Farmco Knight ends Verve Club’s Playoff Hopes
Farmco Knight 98 Verve Club 57
Farmco Knight decimates Verve Club in a lopsided victory to end Verve Club’s playoff hopes and further advance their chances of playoffs qualification
Verve would score first through Wong Qi Ren before Farmco went on a 17-0 run with scoring contributions from the entire team. A three pointer and layup from Verve’s veteran guard duo, Wee Chuan Chin from Soo Eng Heng would cut the deficit to ten at the end of the first quarter.
The rest of the game would see Farmco steadily increase their lead as Verve struggled to contain Farmco’s hot shooting and struggled with their offense, making poor shot selections the entire game. Fatigue would also catch up to Verve as they allowed Farmco to finish with the huge 41 point victory
Despite missing lead rebounder Wong Chin Yong for the game, Farmco’s disciplined defense would see them out rebound Verve 59-42. Farmco would end the game with an impressive 52% FG percentage. Farmco’s best player of the game would be Teh Wei Hong with 15 points and 6 rebounds on 7 for 8 shooting.
With the loss, Verve’s record now stands at 1-8 with no chance of catching up to the current sixth placed Melaka 96ers
PRG Warriors 71 Red Baron 52
PRG Warriors broke their two game losing streak, defeating Red Baron in an impressive 71-52 as Red Baron once again struggles with inconsistent form
Keng Eng Hong would get Red Baron going with a three pointer before Tan Wen Gio would reply with one of his own for PRG. This would spark a 12-0 run for PRG capped off with a three pointer by the league’s assists leader, Tong Wen Keong to force the early Red Baron timeout. Red Baron would manage to cut the lead to seven at the end of the first
The second quarter would be takeover time for Liew Kar Choon, scoring 11 of PRG’s 18 points to give them a double digit lead going into the break.
Red Baron would only be able to cut the lead to as close as nine for the rest of the game as Ng Cheng Toong scored an alley oop basket early in the ninth before PRG once again went on a scoring run to build the lead up to 20 after yet another three pointer by Liew Kar Choon with three minutes remaining in the third quarter. PRG would be able to build the lead to as high as 24 late in the fourth.
The buzzer sounded with a resounding 19 point victory for PRG, keeping their hopes alive of finishing second and gaining automatic entry into the semi finals
PRG would be led by Liew Kar Choon who finished with 22 points and 7 rebounds as he continues his bid to finish as the league’s top scorer
With Red Baron’s loss and Farmco winning earlier in the day, the next game between Red Baron and Farmco Knights will now prove critical for both teams in their quest for playoffs qualification
The game will be Red Baron’s final game for the regular season and should they lose, their record will move to 4-6 with Farmco’s record going to 4-5. Even if Farmco loses their final game, Farmco would have the head to head advantage over Red Baron
Should Red Baron win, their regular season record will stand at 5-5, giving Farmco no chance of overtaking them.
