NS Matrix 2 secured the Men’s Division third placing by dealing the Westports Malaysia Dragons the heavy 95-65 defeat.
The Dragons, playing their second game in less than 12 hours, started well, taking an early lead thanks to Tan Wei Long’s eight first quarter points. However, Chin Zhi Shin and Yek Liang Chuan picked up their scoring momentum, combining for 9 points each to give Matrix the five point lead at the end of the first
Dragons managed to regain the lead in the second quarter thanks to the inspired play of Hensler Kwan but cold shooting began to haunt them as Matrix closed out the second quarter on a 16-2 run to take a 12 point lead at the half.
The run proved to much for the fatigued Dragons as they had no answers for Matrix 2 in the second half. Matrix 2 kept up their hot shooting form and intensity in defense, giving the Dragons no chance for any form of a comeback.
Matrix 2 steadily increased their lead, finishing with the 30 point win to avenge their previous two losses to the Dragons in the Qualifying Round. Matrix finished with 52% shooting for the game.
Yek Liang Chuan picked up his second 30 plus points performance, scoring 33 points on 70% shooting. Dragon’s best player for the game was Hensler Kwan with 13 points.
