60th MABA/Matrix Women’s Day 5 Recap – Negeri Sembilan are the Champions!

Negeri Sembilan Basketball Association – NSBA secured the 60th MABA/Matrix Agong Cup Women’s Championship in emphatic fashion by defeating Segamat BA 85-35!

The victory brought home the Women’s Championship to Negeri Sembilan for the 11th time and for the first time since 1967.

Segamat were dealt a huge blow before the game as the Tan sisters, Pei Jie, Yin Jie and Sin Jie were unable to play due to personal reasons.

Negeri Sembilan quickly took the double digits lead in the first quarter before Segamat attempted a comeback, cutting the lead to eight early in the second quarter through baskets by Yong Sin Lu and Joey Lim Zhu Er.

The mini comeback sparked a 26-2 Negeri Sembilan run which ballooned the lead to 32 at the half.

Without their main line up, Segamat were unable to make any form of comeback as Negeri Sembilan hit the 50 point lead mark after a pair of free throws by Hin Jia Wei late in the game.

Negeri Sembilan’s best player was ‘Kiddo’ Choo Sook Ping who contributed 12 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks.

Segamat’s Yong Sin Lu led their brave efforts with 13 points.

Earlier in the day, in a showdown between two teams without a win, Matrix Basketball Club close out their Agong Cup in impressive fashion, defeating the defending champions KL Basketball Association 74-25.

Matrix’s best player was Lee Li Xuan with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Ai Wei Xin led Kuala Lumpur with 9 points.
